The
Outaouais, a one-of-a-kind destination!
Throughout the year,
several major events and festivals are held to spice up our visitors’ stay in the Outaouais and the National
Capital region. From tulips to fireworks to hot-air balloons, there’s
something for everyone! Summer is ideal for cycling, hiking, horseback
riding and canoeing, while winter is great for cross-country skiing,
snowmobiling, snowshoeing and dogsledding. Good times are guaranteed
in all seasons!
The Outaouais, where culture and nature go hand in hand!
Put on your snowshoes, skis or skates and enjoy the great outdoors!
And after a full day of outdoor activities, warm up near the fireplace,
let yourself be pampered at one of our numerous spas, visit a museum
and admire exclusive exhibits, savour a fine meal inspired by regional
products or take in an entertaining show at the casino theatre. In
the Outaouais, the hustle and bustle of city life and the quietude
of nature live in harmony to offer you the best of both worlds!
Must-sees in the Outaouais
Even if you only have a
few days ahead of you, the Outaouais’ main
attractions will give you a taste of the region. Canada’s most
popular museum, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, is a great place
to learn about Canadian history—its architecture will leave you
speechless! Climb aboard the Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield Steam Train and
discover enchanting landscapes along the Gatineau river. By bicycle,
on foot or on skis, travel through the superb Gatineau Park, located
just 15 minutes from downtown. And for a fun-filled evening, try your
luck at the Casino du Lac-Leamy and take in a colourful show at the
Théâtre du Casino! At the wheel of your car, meet the
wild animals at Omega Park in a lovely setting of valleys, rocky hills
and prairies.
A history-filled trip to the heart of the Outaouais…
When they’re travelling, many people enjoy adding a touch
of history to their trip. During your stay in the Outaouais, climb aboard
Canada’s last authentic steam-powered train and stay overnight at
the old grist mill, which dates back to 1838, located in the picturesque
village of Wakefield. Wander through Gatineau Park and visit the summer
home of Canada’s 10th Prime Minister at Mackenzie-King Estate. North
of Gatineau, head to the living museum of Mawandoseg Kitigan Zibi, where
you can meet members of the Anishinabe community and learn how to tan
hides and make birch-bark canoes. Complete your journey into the past
by visiting the brand-new First Peoples Hall at the Canadian Museum of
Civilization.
